I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Luxe Communications (Los Angeles, CA) in Sep 2008
Interview
Initial communication was made in response to the job posting for the website Craigslist. I e-mailed a resume and cover letter to the owner, Soon Nguyen. Nguyen took some time to respond to me, and I received an e-mail asking for more information about two weeks after initial contact. I followed up as requested and we arranged a face-to-face interview, which took some time because of Nguyen's very restrictive schedule (with much out of country travel). In the meantime, Nguyen had me e-mail her a personal statement and description of my personal work interest.
At the interview, Nguyen seemed more interested in learning about potential competitors than in discussing my personal qualifications. It was congenial, however, and we did talk about many of the clients we had previously had in common. Nguyen brought in her senior event manager about half way through the interview and the three of us chatted, as well.
The things that seemed most important to Nguyen were my ability to work the hours they maintained and an ability to hold down many different tasks. Since they have an office of about 6 people, I did ask for an introduction to the team, which seemed a bit awkward for Nguyen to present; I think that's a somewhat extraordinary request for them, even though the full team works together in a very small space. In general, the office culture seemed casual but intense.
Unfortunately, even though I provided several follow-up materials and requests to speak again, Ms. Nguyen never responded, which I found to be poor post-interview etiquette on her part.
