After being selected to move forward in the interview process, I was given an assessment to complete. I figured the assessment would be related to my background in technical recruiting but it was a 50 question IQ test assessment where you have 15 minutes to complete it. The questions had no relation to the role at all and after completing it I received an email saying they were not moving forward. The role was for a Technical Recruiter (AI/NLP) focus. The crazy thing is that I have a lot of experience hiring in this area. I lead hiring efforts for the past two years to build out an entire team of Applied Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers focused on Conversational AI. To weed out candidates with expertise in the exact field you are hiring for due to an assessment unrelated to the role is extremely bad practice. As a fellow recruiter, I believe I dodged a bullet and this type of process is a first for me…
