I went through an extensive on-site interview process at Laars Heating Systems that involved multiple leaders across purchasing, planning, engineering, fabrication, and manufacturing operations. Those interviews were professional, well-prepared, and consistently aligned with the posted job description.
Unfortunately, the final interview with the Plant Manager significantly undermined the process. The discussion focused on a role and set of responsibilities that were materially different from the position that had been presented throughout the prior interviews. None of the six interviewers I met with beforehand referenced any change in scope, expectations, or direction.
The lack of preparation and alignment in the final interview raised concerns about leadership coordination and role clarity. It was unclear whether the position had been changed without internal communication or whether the interviewer was not adequately prepared for the discussion. Either scenario reflects poorly on the process.
Candidates considering opportunities here should be aware that the role discussed late in the interview process may differ substantially from what is initially presented. For senior-level professionals investing significant time and effort, clearer communication and leadership alignment are essential, and unfortunately were lacking in this case.
