I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Kumon (Guelph, ON) in Sep 2012
Interview
The entire hiring process consisted simply of one casual interview. Interviewer was very informal; it felt like I was having a regular conversation. The interviewer made me feel very comfortable in the interview, which is very difficult to do. Additionally, none of the typical interview questions were asked. Instead, the interviewer focused on my personal experience in a learning situation to really understand whether or not I would be able to empathize with the students I would tutor. There was a lot less focus on my experiences as a tutor. There was a math test at the end to make sure I had the basic math skills required to assist students in their studies on the job.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How did self-teaching and learning ahead contribute to your success in school? (referring to my experience in learning math on my own outside of class)
Quick and easy in about 3-4 questions. I walked right in and got things started. I was seated in the classroom and it was only the franchise owner that interviewed me.
The interview was extremely short and contained brief questions. Not a lot of them referred to any prior knowledge regarding math or English skills. The most important ones are regarding one's ability to work with children.
I applied online via email and received a reply in a few days for an interview. It was an 1 on 1 interview. There was no test and the interview lasted for 15 minutes.
