      Assistant Manager In Training Interview

      Apr 14, 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Atlanta, GA
      No offer
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Kmart (East Stroudsburg, PA) in Aug 2014

      Interview

Forty minute interview with Hardline Manager (former) and Human Resource Manager. Each asked questions relevant to position applied for, knowledge and length of time with the company, positions and areas held and worked within the company. What my goals within the company are (were) locations of previous stores. Educational and Military background, marital and family status, also what precipitated my relocation to Pennsylvania. I was informed that the position I applied for was selected and determined by K Mart's Corporate Office .However, it was stated; not in writing, of course, by both interviewers, if I accepted an associate position the opportunity for advancement would be easier to obtain. Hence, I have been past over twice, Department Lead and Customer Service Desk positions; the former, candidate was chosen due to a personal acquaintance with a member of Upper Level Management, the latter the reason was not disclosed. In hindsight, the interview and process was positive, the results and fruition of advancement were (are) negative . Primarily since both members of management had foreknowledge that the position was not a store-level decision, which should have been addressed prior to commencement of the interview and ascertaining employment and personal information.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Do I have experience in a Leadership role and what departments have I worked in, and how long have I worked with the company?

      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Kmart (Atlanta, GA) in May 2014

      Interview

Two online assessments then interview with a store manager. I thought all went well and then I got a call a week later from a HR rep out of Chicago. She said the position was withdrawn (not filled). She asked if I would be interested in a position in a couple of nearby towns and I responded affirmatively but I never heard another word.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

A scenario with different employees and their sales, salaries, and other data in the appliance department. I was asked to analyze the data and answer several questions about the data.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Kmart (Honesdale, PA) in Nov 2013

      Interview

Contacted by recruiter asked the basic questions, but obviously didn't read my resume/application before contacting me. Got a call a few days later from a store location about an hour from me to come in for an interview. Interview was 1:1 with the store manager Name a time when questions and an example of a situation you may face that you get 20 minutes to read over and analyze to answer the questions associated with the exercise. Could tell the manager didn't want to be interviewing me from the moment I sat down. Very unorganized constantly interrupted. Asked a question to clarifying a question he rolled his eyes and abruptly repeated the extremely vague question then proceeded to read the remaining questions to me as if I were mentally slow. After the eye roll and rudeness, I pretty much just wanted the finish up as quickly as possible because the experience was absolutely horrible.

      Question 1

Situational questions. Nothing really unexpected except for the rudeness.
