Application
I applied through other source. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Sep 2014
Interview
I was referred from a professor that had colleagues at APL. Because I already had several outstanding offers on the table, HR moved swiftly to schedule a timely interview with a couple interested teams. Overall, the interview process was stressful. Spoke to 8 different engineers/scientists and it took an entire day to complete.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I cannot really pin point the most difficult or unexpected question but they all know their information so if you mention something do not be surprised to explain in detail and a sound, technical level. Throughout the entire interview process they evaluate how well you can articulate and explain what you are talking about. I was questioned in detail about several classes on my resume and about certain grades I received in a few classes
Very straightforward and simple behavioral questions, very few technical questions. No white board style coding asked. First, had recruiter phone screen, then recruiter interview to discuss job details and benefits, then the actual interview with the hiring team took between 1-2 hours

Question 1
How would you address conflict within your team if an issue arose?
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (Laurel, MD) in Nov 2022
Interview
The process was very straightforward, first a phone screen where the staff told me about the group I was interviewing with and asked some minor questions, a couple days later was a zoom "interview" with a HR person which really was them telling me what to expect during the in person interview. A few days after that there was an in person interview which consisted of multiple 1hour long (ish) interviews with different staff from the group, some were more technical oriented while others were more behavioral. Everyone was very friendly and easy to talk too, they joked around a bit but only to ease some of the seriousness and interview jitters, which I appreciated. Overall the process was very fast because I had pending offers from other companies so turnaround was quick. I got an offer the next business day.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (Laurel, MD)
Interview
Phone interview scheduled 4 weeks after submitting application. On-site interview 3 weeks after phone screen. Met with recruiter first to chat about benefits and logistics and then with supervisors and early career staff for half-day. Interview questions were fairly typical. Received offer one week after on-site interview.
