Interview
Lied about what position was being offered the posting was for finance manager but they want car salesmen so they tried the old bait and switch but with applications so because of that I turned down the job… would have been nice to know before driving 30 minutes away
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Jeff Wyler Automotive Family (Fairfield, OH) in Sep 2025
Interview
Hands down the most disrespectful interview I’ve ever had the misfortune of being a part of.
For the record, I’ve been recruited for this company for years. I’ve told the recruiter multiple times that I have no interest in a lateral move. When I was asked to interview for this position (by the same recruiter), I said that I would, so I scheduled it. I drove about an hour and when I got there, the person that I thought I would interview with called someone on the phone, asked her to conduct the interview, and proceeded to discuss another applicant while in front of me. I found that bizarre, but let it go. When my primary interviewer came in, I was asked very pointed and frankly, rude questions about my current company, and then I was told that the job I was interviewing for was a position that was not available for external hires. I would be required to work in sales before even being considered for the role that I was ASKED TO INTERVIEW FOR. The reason I was given was that they didn’t know me, and didn’t know how I would perform in a sales role. All the while, my resume (that she had clearly not reviewed) was sitting right in front of her, and she didn’t ask me about my current role (which is in sales) or my accomplishments in it, didn’t ask me why I felt I’d be good in this job, or anything relevant to why I was there in the first place. The entire interview was an exercise in futility, and my interviewer made it very clear that I should have never applied for this job, despite the fact that the only reason I was there is because I was told specifically that the company would love to interview me for the position.
I kept thinking to myself - why post this job externally if the company wouldn’t hire an external candidate? Why advertise this job as not needing previous experience in this role? Why ask an external candidate to interview for the role if there was no intention to even consider someone objectively for it? What a colossal waste of time. But the real cherry on top was being told that it’s a great company to work for. Doubt it, if this is the way you bait and switch people who apply.
I walked out of that interview feeling like I should have apologized, but the more that I think about it, the more I realize that I never misrepresented my intentions or my qualifications. I was the one who was misled in the process, and it’s not surprising to me now that the general reviews of working for this company are all over the place. God forbid that this company treats customers the same way. But hey, at least I learned where the grass is greener.
