I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at January (New York, NY) in Jan 2022
Interview
Spoke to a recruiter who seemed nice enough and provided some basic info about the company and engineering structure. The next round was a technical screen with a technical consultant. We spent the majority of the time speaking about the product, followed by my technical background and recent projects. With less than 15 minutes, the interview shifted to the coding session. I was asked to share my screen and implement a method for a fairly obscure data structure that I wasn't especially familiar with. The interviewer rushed to explain the fundamental properties about the data structure and then asked me to implement the method. It honestly felt like I was being set up to fail. Never ended up hearing back from them.
For such a small company, I don't really see the relevance in how asking that type of question is a good measure for success in the role, nor can I imagine that is the type of problem solving their engineers are performing in their day to day. Struck me more so as a startup just trying to emulate FAANG engineering interviews without really thinking too critically about a more robust process to test a candidate's ability to perform well in the role.
Overall a fairly lousy candidate experience.
