      Talent Acquisition Specialist Interview

      Sep 23, 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Mississauga, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at JYSK (Mississauga, ON) in Sep 2016

      Interview

Prior to the interview, I had no phone conversation/prescreen. Rather, an automated ATS message was used to schedule the time, and the address was emailed to me. I had no information about which door to enter upon arrival at the interview, where to park, etc. To make matters worse, the interview was essentially an in-person pre-screen which lasted about 25 minutes, and was honestly a complete waste of my time. The inteviewer was very dry, and was not willing to have an open conversation to truly understand my experience. Rather, she just wanted answers to the questions she asked; which I believe were truly not enough questions to really understand my experience. Prior to the interview, I had connected with two former employees who worked at JYSK, in the HR department. I had asked them for tips, areas to focus on, the direction of the company, etc. They were very open and helpful. For this reason, I felt that I had a competitive edge and would surely land the position. However, I don't feel that the hiring manager gave me a fair share of her time to truly understand my experience. For example, she asked me absolutely nothing about KPI's which is essential in the world of recruitment. After the interview I reconnected with the former employees and explained my experience to them. One former employee stated "that's JYSK managers for you." From my discussion with the two employees I gathered that the hiring manager I had met with was "cut & dry" in her relations with them as well. All in all, I am happy that I did not receive this offer. I truly feel it would have been a mistake to leave my current position to work under the managers' leadership; quite frankly, I don't think I would have lasted long in the role anyways based on the information that I have heard about her. Tip to management: Hire managers who understand how to conduct fair interviews, and how to follow process (I've never had an interview without a prescreen. Does JYSK even know anything about attracting and retaining talent??)
