      Product Consultant Interview

      Aug 2, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at JCPenney in Jul 2015

      Interview

The most relaxed interview I've had. I had a group interview with 3 other girls.I applied for the Sephora Product Consultant, as did the other 3 girls. They only had 1 opening for Sephora, but we were all asked if we were interested in other positions they had available. We were instructed to build a small tower using wooden blocks. Each of us had 10 second to look at the picture of the tower and then for about 20 seconds we would instruct the rest of the group. There were about 5 individuals in the room watching us build the tower. The key is to try your best and have fun with your group. You don't have to build the tower right, what they want to see is that you can work in a team and have fun. I recommend talking with the other interviewees before the interview, if you get the chance. They also emphasized in wanting open availability. They wanted individuals who were available to work weekends, particularly on Sundays. They mentioned not hiring you if you wanted Sundays off; I live in a Mormon community and people have been know not to work on Sunday due to this. It was also stated that if you could not show up to training, they would offer the position to someone else. My interview was on a Wednesday and I was called on Saturday and offered a position in the children's department.

      Product Consultant Interview

      Anonymous employee
      Baltimore, MD
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at JCPenney (Baltimore, MD) in Feb 2019

      Interview

I went through numerous interviews. The manager made me feel very calm and chill. I was offered a position pending a background check. I have no record so this should be a piece of cake right? Nope, my background check was taking seemingly longer than normal and every time I called to check in I was told it hadn’t come back yet/“probably backed up in the system”. Turns out that JCPenny has a 2 week policy where if the check doesn’t come back within that time they move on with another candidate. They never informed me of this and it went on for over a month before they did. Not only that, but turns out my background check did come back in time, they just “weren’t aware of it”. My advice would be to not be afraid to check in and keep the lines of communication open during the hiring process.

      Product Consultant Interview

      Anonymous employee
      Muskegon, MS
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at JCPenney (Muskegon, MS) in Mar 2018

      Interview

It was about 15 minutes long and they kept asking me to work the dock (stock) even though I had applied for sales. My background was and has been in sales so I was confused as to why she wanted me there. When I said no she then proceeded to ask me if I would be interested in a home decor position instead. Not the position I applied for.
