JAMstudio interview questions

Asked participants to complete an artistic Photoshop orientated assignment. After that was done and submitted they went completely silent until I had to email for a follow up and they said they stopped their interview process. I wish I didn't spend that much time on the assignment to be not even told they paused the interview process, seems quite unprofessional.
