Four Rounds of Interviews for a Role That Wasn’t What They Described
I went through four rounds of interviews for the Product Owner position, only to find that the role they described during interviews was completely different from the job posting. The interview questions and expectations aligned more with a Product Manager or even Head of Product position — emphasizing market strategy, ROI ownership, and competitive analysis rather than backlog management, stakeholder alignment, and delivery oversight typical of a Product Owner role.
It felt like the team did not have a clear understanding of what a Product Owner actually does, and as a result, the process was misleading and time-consuming. If they expect a hybrid Product Owner/Product Manager, they should update the job description to reflect that.
