      Systems Architect Interview

      Dec 2, 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Farmington Hills, MI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HARMAN (Farmington Hills, MI) in Nov 2014

      Interview

This company really has a horrible interview process and a very unorganized HR department. Interviewed for a systems architect job in Detroit. Received a call from the company just a day after posting my resume. Went through a phone interview and I thought it went really well. The interviewer said I was being recommended for an onsite interview. Days later I receive an automated email that says I have been "Selected" for an onsite interview, but I never receive a date, time, location, etc. At 10am one morning, I email the HR contact and she informs me that the interview is at 1pm and she forgot to send the email! I had to rush over to the interview building in my work clothes to complete the interview, which went very well. I was then scheduled for a third phone interview with a colleague in Europe. At this point I am basically answering the same questions that were asked in the first two interviews. Very aggravating. Overall the third interview goes very well and I was expecting a call from HR to discuss an offer. HR calls me and leaves a voicemail (they can't even get my first name right and it is the most common name in the English language...grrr). They decide to schedule a fourth phone interview! At this point I feel like I am just wasting my time as I go through endless phone interviews regurgitating the same things over and over again. The interviewer on the fourth call decides to starts hitting me with detailed questions about software development skills even though I am interviewing for a systems architect job. I tell him that I have worked as a software development engineer in the past but my skill are more focused on hardware and software architect...thus my interest in the architecture job :-/ A few hours later I get a call from Harman HR explaining that they will not be moving forward with an offer after nearly 3 days of time wasted because they are looking for someone with more "software development experience". I honestly don't think Harman know the difference between a systems architect and software engineer. I can honestly say that this is one job interview that I am glad didn't end in a job offer. I wouldn't have taken it anyway...

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The most difficult part was figuring out where to show up for the interview when Harman HR doesn't even send out time and location until 3 hours before.
