      Event Manager Interview

      Jun 15, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Clyde, TX
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at George P. Johnson (Clyde, TX) in Jun 2019

      Interview

30 minute introductory phone interview. Hour and a half panel interview with 7 GPJ staff. The starting salary offered for the position is $11,000 below market value but the benefit offer is good. I spoke with an employee and they relayed that although a big selling point used to recruit is unlimited flexible time off it is hard to find the time to take off. Office culture is said to be very good.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

A scenario question was presented by which a budget amount, event specifics and given a deadline for the event. Then I was told that the client two weeks before the event cut the budget by $5K. What would I do and what changes would I make to ensure the events success?
      Answer question

      Question 2

I was offered the position 4 weeks after the interview and I accepted the offer. The company was not willing to negotiate the start date which left me with 10 days to get my household packed, new housing found and moved to Austin. Not able to move that quickly they withdrew the offer. My recommendation is do not interview with this company unless you are located in Austin or can start immediately.

I applied online. I interviewed at George P. Johnson (Austin, TX) in Jul 2017

      Interview

I was contacted via email by an HR person for a phone screening, then had an in person interview with a panel of about 6 women. The woman who did the initial screening was very pleasant and personable. However, in the panel interview it felt like a sorority. Not at all as friendly. I have a friend who worked for GPJ (no long does) and I'd asked him what his experience was with them. Although he worked there for many years, he did not recommend it to me. He said that they are very
