I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Genomic Life (San Diego, CA) in Nov 2025
Interview
Submitted app online (day 0). Met with HR rep day 1 to go over standard HR questions and some baseline data questions (have you worked with x tool before?), very nice, she spoke to me as if I had the job in hand. Told me it was a 4 interview process (including this one). Then met with the person overseeing the DS in second interview (day 2). She was also very kind and nice, asked very general questions. It seemed more to be getting a feel for culture fit. Then met with the data team managers following week. Started distanced in tone and manner and then they softened as I spoke with them, was even able to share some laughs. They asked more broad picture questions, very conversational, just getting a general feel for my experience with the various tools. Nothing in depth to prove specific knowledge. Then I didn't hear from the company for a week, contacted HR, she said they were still interviewing other candidates and would have an answer the next week. Next week came and went. Then the following week, got the 'deferred' email. Ultimately they were looking for a data engineer rather than a true data scientist, which i did not fit the bill of.

Have you worked with Snowflake? Have you worked with AWS? Have you worked with messy data? Were you part of the team that created the MySQL database architecture at your company?
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Genomic Life in Jul 2023
Interview
1st initial interview with HR 2nd -hiring manager, 3rd- another Senior CM 4th -COO Interviews were standard, with normal questions based around handling a book of business, etc. Nothing out of the normal. I felt like the COO had a lot of enthusiasm which was great to see but felt like he lead on that I was the top choice and since i wasn't given an offer I feel like that may not have been genuine.

Interview
The interview was very straightforward. Went from a phone screen to a technical interview. Everyone was friendly and understanding. Most of the questions deal with SQL databases and Java. When I was confused about a subject, they were happy to explain it to me.
