Recruiter call was fine. Typical questions asked. Hiring manager call was set up the following week. Manager may have been unprepared/checked out as it started off okay and tanked by the end of the call. Typical questions were asked during the interview but it appeared the manager wasn’t listening at some point. Constant nodding of the head, looking over to another screen or monitor and the overall appearance of not being fully present. When I asked what is one thing the team does that makes the manager proud? The response was follow instructions. While that is important in any role to hear that from a manager it was jarring. There has to be something else that the team does to make the manager proud but that was the answer. It appears the manager doesn’t want to micromanager based on the answers to my next questions but that may be ongoing. Towards the end of the call the manager asked me about something we discussed earlier and that confirmed they weren’t listening. I stated what I mentioned at the beginning. It was mentioned how many more interviews they had to complete that week, when I should get a response (I never got one) and then they received a notification of someone on the team resigning. It was very awkward to listen to them state someone was leaving and how they needed them. Not sure of the reason for resigning but if this interview was any indication of how the leadership would be under this manager I’m glad to have heard nothing back.
