I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Fred Meyer (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2014
Interview
Very brief, looked at my 4 years experience in customer service. From when I applied to interview was 2 weeks. After accepting job it was another few weeks. Then 2 days orientation I believe, hours of sitting listening to them cover slew of rules, and the web based learning which was infantile. By the time you got on the floor you couldn't remember much.
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Fred Meyer (Boise, ID) in Sep 2018
Interview
Applied online. Didn't hear anything until I went shopping there two weeks later and mentioned to the cashier that I had applied. He told me to fill out a form at customer service that would help speed up the process. I got an email later that night requesting a phone interview. The phone interview was very brief and then I was scheduled for an interview with the HR manager for the next week. Interview didn't take too long, mostly questions about my experience, how I would help customers, and then they offered me the job. I filled out new hire paperwork one week later, had 2 days of orientation the week after that, and then cashier training the week after that.
*I had originally applied for a grocery stocker position but during the inteview they told me they could only guarantee 10 hrs a week at that time, so I chose the apparel clerk position.

It was a very relaxed easy going interview process. Fairly standard questions and experience, interest, work ethic, and desire. Dress for the job you want. The overall experience was very good, HR made me feel very comfortable and relaxed.
