I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Formative in Nov 2021
Interview
Standard HR call, CEO conversation, followed by a "paired programming" interview. Overall the process was not bad, but the experience with the last portion of that process wasn't great.
The paired programming portion consisted of 2 other devs (one a contractor) and a screen share. You clone down a repo onto your machine which mirrors their tech stack, build and run the code, then have a fairly simple task to do.
Long story short, spent 2.5 hours on a scheduled 1 hour interview mostly trying to install dependencies, finding a workaround, then was basically told what to type and where by the contractor conducting the interview.
Highly disappointed with the way the technical portion of the interview was handled. However, I'd prefer more companies do technical interviews similarly in terms of a project/task structure.
