      May 21, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Amsterdam
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Foot Locker (Amsterdam) in Apr 2021

      Interview

After the recruiters found me suitable and forward my application to Foot Locker, I received a case study to solve. I was then informed they really liked my profile and I was invited for an interview with hiring manager, There were two people during my interview. I had really good connection with them and the entire procedure went really smooth, as I knew I had all the desired skills and experience for the role. They also gave me that impression during the talk so I was quite positive about the outcome, especially that they had told me before they are going to hire not 1 but 6 people for that position. I was waiting to receive the feedback on my interview that took a little longer than expected. The feedback was: you are great, we fell like you have all the relevant skills, you could be successful in this position but, wait for it, it is a no, we are not going to offer you a job. What was the reason? Because you do not speak very common European languages. In the requirements it was listed that only English is mandatory. I specifecy asked during the process if they work directly with different languages and I was informed that it is only an English position, so they do not look at other languages. I come form Europe, so apart of English I speak my native language and a bit of other languages - I was Never asked about it during the entire process. Basically, the reason they rejected me was, that my native language is not as attractive as Italian or Spanish etc. If, in the job requirements they would have specified they value other languages, this would have made sense. They have never mentioned it whatsoever. This was a big waste of time, not to mention that I missed other opportunities because of being stuck on that one. I have never experienced such treatment before. You know, it is not hard to mention this in the job specification. Have a bit more respect for the people that apply for the jobs.
