I applied online. I interviewed at Five Rings (Princeton, NJ) in Mar 2020
Interview
I got interview on the phone. The process was about 40 minutes. The interviewer asks general questions about the resume and then go through the list of estimating questions such as what is the average weight of some newborn animals.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Five Rings in Apr 2025
Interview
Had a 1 hour HR call, then got invited for a 1 hour interview with 5 yoe quant researcher.
The interviewer didn't bother using a proper headset and used the default webcam microphone, so was very difficult to understand. Also, I was quite surprised that none of the interview was about discussing my experience (I have 3 years of relevant experience in the field). They probably think that only asking brain teaser is relevant to find good quant researcher candidates.

Question 1
Number of ways a frog can go from ladder 0 to 100 with jumps of any possible positive size? Follow-up: how many of them have an odd number of steps?
Very nice interview process, multiple rounds with tehcnical questions. The first round is a rapid fire questions where they ask you around 20 questions and you need to answer each within a minute or so. The later rounds are longer proper questions requring novel thoughts and computation.

Question 1
Statistical and computational questions, need to know calculas basics
I applied online. I interviewed at Five Rings (New York, NY) in Aug 2023
Interview
There were 18 technical questions administered by a very friendly HR. Each question involved something about Euclidean geometry, basic probability theory (usually expectation of some quantity), numerical approximation, or a Fermi problem. The time for each question ranged from 20 seconds for the easier ones to 90 seconds for the more challenging ones. I'd estimate you need to solve around 10 of the questions to pass. The HR stops the clock if you are confused about the question or need clarification.

Question 1
For an example of an estimation question (similar but not exactly what I saw since I said I wouldn't release the exact questions), can you quickly estimate something like 12^{1/10}.
