      Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 3, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Fieldscale

      Interview

Really slow and ridiculous multi-stage process that took over 2 months with no respect for the candidate's time. At some point there was a 3 week lack of communication from their side. 1) Phone interview 2) Assessment interview/technical whiteboard standup (on site) 3) Reference checks 4) Hiring team interview/personality checks interview questions (on site) Technical assessment entailed online Javascript and Python tests. Whiteboard standup a high availability web service design. Personality test questions was a bunch of canned questions from the internet, that turned awkward. A co-founder was also present at that stage and he barely had any input on the discussion. Really sad for new startups to use such a hiring procedure in a small market like in Thessaloniki, Greece. If you can't get the vibe of a person during 2 multi-hour on site interviews and you need canned personality tests, then you lack people skills and you just drive senior engineers away. Sorry, you are not unique, surely not Google to have such a long and absurd process of interviewing.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fieldscale (Thessaloníki, Western Macedonia) in Mar 2017

      Interview

Applied online around mid to end of February 2017. Initially, there was a phone screening, but given the fact that I was living at the time in the same town of the company offices, I was asked to go on-site for an interview. The interview consisted of 50+ multiple choice C/C++ questions (!). It was made quite clear to me that regardless of my replies to this questionnaire, there will be a follow-up in the future. My CV was reviewed briefly at that moment. On top of all of those events, I had to complete this questionnaire in the kitchen of the company. Several days passed with no follow-up. I sent in total 3-4 follow-up e-mails and never received a proper explanation or reply on the reasons my application is not going to move further. Awful experience for a fresh graduate. Companies like these and their behaviour towards candidates are the main reason greek graduates are moving abroad.
