Initial communication is generally by phone call. Mine was a few screening questions by the owner, Walt. We set up a time for me to come in and talk. There wasn't much in evaluation, other than a general feeling they get from you, based on how you conduct yourself. It's more about them selling you on this opportunity by letting you know about the experience of the founders and the direction they are steering the company.
