      Engineering Manager Interview

      I interviewed at Ethico

      Interview

Five rounds with a number of stakeholders, followed by reference checks. The process was not what was advertised in the posting - in addition to what was posted, I also had an additional one hour panel, and the executive round was 30 minutes longer than advertised. I had to do a Wonderlic assessment and was told this would inform on questions asked during the interview, but received zero questions related to the results of the assessment. At the end of the process, I was asked for references and was told the team wanted to move fast toward a decision. After providing references within the day, it took two weeks and a followup for them to be contacted, I proceeded to wait an additional three weeks for a final response. I followed up four times in total, at which points the recruiter seemed completely clueless as to what was happening but mentioned I would hear news within the week. Finally I was told the offer went to someone else. The entire process was a waste of time with poor communication and zero feedback, and affected my job search given how close to offer I went. I got a sense of intense disorganization from the process, and perhaps dodged a bullet in the end. Future management would do well to be more respectful to the candidates who are applying. If you treat your candidates like this, you also probably treat your employees as such, and given how the interviews went, burnout, disinterest, and poor culture seemed well on display.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're sorry to hear the process felt frustrating and drawn out. Our goal is always to respect candidates’ time and communicate clearly throughout each stage, and while delays do occasionally happen, we understand how disappointing it can be when timelines shift. We do sometimes adjust the process depending on the role and team needs, and we know that can be frustrating when it’s not clearly communicated up front. We appreciate you calling that out and will continue working to create a more consistent and transparent experience. We wish you all the best in your search and thank you again for your feedback. Sincerely, The People Team
