      Patent Examiner Interview

      Dec 15, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at EPO (London, England) in Oct 2018

      Interview

The process is tough and you need a bit of luck to get through the first few stages. Put emphasis on your first technical interview and prepare the given tasks VERY carefully. This one is the key to get the F2F "recall". Both, my technical interview and my F2F interview, were very nice, but also very tough. The Skype HR interview(er) was not really fit for the role and their target applicants. Overall, the process from application to offer takes way too long (8 months for me), is way too beaurocratic, and in the end the final offer is way less than they advertise in the job posting. Every job grade level raise requires 6 years work experience, so only worth it if you come straight from university.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Very detailed technical questions on given patents.
      Answer question

      Question 2

How you deal with stress, repetitiveness, tough deadlines and pressure from above. Did not really paint a nice picture of their ethics and company values

      Interview

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Munich, Bavaria
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at EPO (Munich, Bavaria)

      Interview

During the technical interview they've asked me general questions related to my field of expertise in a very broad manner for approximately 45 min. Then they've shown me snippets of patent claims and technical drawings from earlier patent applications and made me identify novel parts and explain everything to them. They basically wanted to check my understadning of patent claims and the invention.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

evaluate different patent claims and drawings related to my field of expertise. I had to describe the invention, show that i understood the novel parts and communicate that to the interviewers.
