      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at DuckDuckGo in Jan 2026

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I interviewed at DuckDuckGo (New York, NY)

      Interview

Long and slow interview process. Rejected after first project. No feedback provided after projects. Never paid me for the project. Did not respond to competing processes (could not speed up). Overall bad experience. Extremely low base salary too.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

No actual interview. All written projects. Did ask: why DuckDuckGo? Why you left prior employer?
      Answer question

      Interview

It's a strange experience. DuckDuckGo pride themselves on radical transparency, but they cannot commit to this in the interview process. I got through to the first take-home exercise, and my recruiter said that they'd set up a meeting to discuss it, but they didn't. I was advised to keep it brief and not too technical. The test was rejected, which is fine, but given how strongly they sell transparency, it's very incongruous that they can't even give a brief explanation. I know they say that this is their policy, but if you give up your transparency at the first challenge, then it's probably not a value that you hold true.

      Director Interview

      Mar 8, 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at DuckDuckGo in Nov 2022

      Interview

Rigorous interview process with a high bar (comparable to most FAANG roles). Two rounds of take home assignments, both paid generously. Gave a good understanding of what it would be like to work at DuckDuckGo. Recruiter was also very responsive, engaged, and supportive. Overall a very good experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Prioritizing new product experiences, building a go-to-market strategy for a new product
