Interview
Initial screening call. Then 30 minute interview with hiring manager and another senior level individual. Given subsequent test on proprietary system. Received follow up questions after completion. I declined to pursue job further based upon attitude from hiring manager. They have a complex proprietary system, it can do a lot of complex business functions, it would take years to truly be an expert in it. But unless you are specifically committed to becoming an expert in it, it is not any more transferable as a specific job skill than learning any other company's custom software to deliver whatever business needs.

Question 1
Why didn't I go above and beyond and do more configuration for 'extra credit' after completing the configuration task?

Interview
First contact was with the internal recruiter. Talked about the position and very little about the company. We also discussed my salary requirements. I was told my requirement was fine because “This is a senior position.” I was told there is a 2 phase process to get an interview. I had to do a project in module builder. This product does have a learning curve, I spent ~5 hours on the 2 steps. After completing I was awarded an interview. Spent time preparing for the interview creating a presentation. The interview was more of a demo than interview, I didn’t get any personal questions. Just questions about the product. After the interview it came to light my salary ask was too high. About 20K to high! Some how this was missed even with the value in my application and discussion on the screening call. The CEO denied going above the normal rate, so I was shut down. I noticed another interview review the candidate got all the way to the interview and then was shut down because of a lack of degree. It seems the screening process has an issue. I was looking forward to this position, felt I could bring value to the team. But it just ended with many hours of wasted time.

Interview
DevonWay is generally well-regarded by its employees and boasts high retention rates. However, there are opportunities for improvement in their interview process, which I'll outline below: 1. The initial HR screener provided an overview of the organization but lacked detailed information about the role or team. 2. Candidates are asked to complete a Technical Challenge upfront, consuming a substantial amount of time (5 hours) before any interaction with a hiring manager. Additionally, there's pressure to complete the extra credit project, which may not align with the candidate's strengths. 3. After completing the technical task, there was a week of silence, followed by inquiries about my educational background, even though this information was in my application. I was then informed that a Bachelor's degree is a strict requirement for the organization. In order to enhance the candidate experience, it would be beneficial for DevonWay to clearly state educational requirements in job descriptions and reconsider the sequence of technical challenges in their hiring process.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to review your experience. DevonWay strives for excellence in all areas and we apologize for the breakdown in communication. We are actively working to improve our recruiting process and appreciate your feedback.”
