      Facility Administrator Interview

      Mar 21, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DaVita (New York, NY) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I applied online, took an assessment test, shortly after received an email to set up a phone interview. The recruiter was nice enough however very un-engaged. The conversation was extremely one sided and the questions very broad such as: what was a day in the life at your old job, or tell me about your duties when you were employed there, etc. (I understand these are normal questions in an interview but it was the focus of our conversation. To me, you don’t get to know someone’s ability by asking these questions, that’s what a resume is for. I was hoping for more behavioral type questions so she could hear my skill set when it comes to leadership- I didn’t receive one behavioral question.) I even tried to apologize stating it’s hard to put certain things into a nutshell in hopes that would prompt her to give me specific questions that I could answer rather than such broad ones, she didn’t seem to catch on and just stated “that’s fine detail is good.” I was sinking and I knew it, felt like I was talking way too much & being forced to figure out how to put my 7 years of experience into a 20m phone call. She also didn’t take the time or care to explain the position to me, what would be expected, etc. Based off the reviews it seems as though these phone interviews can be luck of the draw dependent upon which recruiter you speak with and whether or not they feel like engaging with you. Anyway, after basically reciting my long winded version of my resume to her. She said for this position a BS degree is preferred (yet on the job posting it says nothing of this, otherwise I would not have wasted either of our time). She also focused on whether or not I knew P&L reports and how versed I am in using them and applying them. I thought this was odd as, I have experience with them but they weren’t the absolute focus in my last job. Due to this fact she decided I was not going to be a good fit for an FA. She also asked if I was willing to go back to school to get my RN (I am an LVN- I said yes of course, but this was odd to me seeing as how the job posting stated that you can be non-medical for this specific position I was interviewing for. Unfortunate, seeing as how I have a nursing license and 7 years management/leadership experience managing anywhere from 75-100 patients a day along with 55+ employees at any given time and was promoted within a company I helped grow for 7 years. You can teach management skills to anyone in my opinion and easily teach how to read and utilize reports (I should know, because I’ve taught it). You cannot teach leadership, however, you are born with leadership ability and this is a quality that should hold high value within a company. Unfortunate, I held Davita to a much higher standard. I always thought this company is where I would want to settle through to retirement and grow in but now, after one single impersonal phone interview, I’m walking away with a very sour, sad taste in my mouth. I am definitely bummed I didn’t have a better experience and better chance with my first impression. Unfortunately for me, and I’m going to say for them - as I am confident in my abilities and skills- there’s usually no opportunity for second chances, so time to move on and re-think my career move. I’d suggest fine tuning the requirements for these posted positions and making sure the recruiters understand what should be at the upmost importance to at least move forward to interview one on one.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Mostly: tell me about what you did in this position or what you did in that position. How did you grow business in your last position? Do you have experience with P&L reports and were you solely responsible for said report? Who was responsible for the report?

It was a very positive experience. They ask you the typical questions. most of them are STAR method. Recruiter was very kind and really listened to what I had to say and they got back to me very fast which I was pleasantly surprised with.

      Interview

I was contacted by Solanki Majumder regarding the initial interview. She conducted a phone interview and let me know she would reach out with next steps. She reached out to me on Tuesday to ask if I was available for a virtual interview with Regional Manager Stephen Betzler on that same Thursday. I let her know that, unfortunately, I wouldn’t be available because I was flying into Houston to wrap up my duties at my current job. She stated that Stephen would be unable to meet any other day and asked if I could make another time work. I let her know that I would try to make it work before 12:00 PM. Because of flight delays, I was unable to complete the virtual interview. I attempted to reach out to Solanki as soon as possible, but she didn’t answer. She called me back and said she wasn't sure whether Stephen would be able to reschedule, but she would let me know. She texted me later that day to update me on a new interview time. At the start of the virtual interview, Stephen let me know that this was his first healthcare job, that he’d been there for 3 years, and that he’d worked at Target prior to his time with DaVita. I let him know that my current role was also my first in healthcare, but that I’d worked in it for 5 years. During those 5 years, I’ve had the pleasure of managing 7 commercial offices (4 at one time) and 2 senior health offices. Stephen ended the interview by letting me know that he’d have Solanki reach out to me with next steps by eod or the next day. After not hearing anything from Solanki, I emailed her and Stephen thanking them for their time and asking if there was any additional information regarding next steps. They let me know that, unfortunately, they would not be moving forward with my application due to a lack of experience. This struck me as odd; by definition, I have more experience than Stephen. I was turned down from managing one healthcare office, yet in my current role I collectively manage 4 offices.

      Interview

1st Was Phone interview with recruiter: They asked questions about my background, and behavioral questions. It took about 45 minutes and she took a lot of notes. 2nd Was a Panel Interview with other Facility Administrators and Group Facility Administrators. All of the questions were behavioral questions, mostly about how you have handled certain situations in the past. It is important that you are thorough with the recruiter and in your resume because the panel will have your resume pulled up and the notes from the recruiter. 3rd Was an interview with the Regional Director, which she asked behavioral questions as well as trying to get an understanding of my knowledge of the business aspect of the position. 4th I did a shadow day at the facility with the Regional Director and acting Facility Administrator. i was shown the facility and met some of the staff. Its important to have a lot of questions and get a chance to have a one on one with the Regional Director if they are their. Finally I did an interview with the VP and Director or Persons. This interview was intense, The will ask behavioral questions but they will want to know the thought process, the why and the how when you make a decision. Also they will focus on whatever shortcoming you may have and ask how you plan to overcome it.
