I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cruise (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2022
Interview
- A nice pitch for joining Cruise: its mission, funding, progress and impact and where it's headed
- Discussion of culture
- A review of my experience, qualifications, $ and location expectations
- Discussion of next steps
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. Describe yourself: explain background, experiences, and skillset
2. Tell me why you want to work at Cruise
3. Ask me any questions
Screening interview went well. All though the recruiter didn’t know much about the position itself so couldn’t answer some of my questions. The recruiter mentioned if the hiring manager wanted to meet me, I would be sent a challenge prior to the interview. I received the challenge and they asked for an 8 page PPT on a scenario they presented and my design decision and why. Exercise would take about 3 hrs. Kind of a lot to ask for when you haven’t even spoken to the hiring manager. I know it was to test your strategic thought process but I think it’s to weed people out. I pulled out of the interview given I had another presentation to prep for an interview I was much further in the process.
