      QA Manual Tester Interview

      Feb 1, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Crossover for Work

      Interview

Process started with online application. First step was online quiz on basic testing. Questions were easy but few were vague. If you have understanding of basic testing principles then you can clear this test(Prepare for ISTQB foundation level tester course then you can easily pass this step). Result was sent immediately through mail. Next step was assignment which they call Tech Trial. One trial version of web application was given to test. You have to do exploratory testing, write text cases, execute test cases, write defect summary report and test summary report for that application. Even though they claim that time required for this assignment is 8-10 hrs for me it took around 15-16 hrs. 2 days after submission I received mail that you have cleared this step. Next step was Skype interview. Interview was professional and interviewer was experienced. It went around 30 mins starting with work experience. All questions were related to testing(see below). After few hours I received mail saying that we can't continue your application with evaluation of assignment and skype interview. Reason for rejection were low defect found in testing (which was true as I could find only 2 defects) and few others that like no experience in performance testing and security testing. Overall experience was good.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How many years of experience do you have in total and how many years of that in testing? Tell me your day to day responsibilities. How to validate XMLs using SOAP UI? What are different types of joins in SQL? Explain inner join, Left join and Right join. What is REST architecture? Explain things to cover in test plan Explain burn up and burn down in agile. How testing of web application and Mobile application differs? Were you ever involved in non functional testing?

Hello and thank you for your feedback concerning your experience with our pre-testing phase of the interview process. It sounds like you did find some success. Don't feel bas about the low defect score. These are not easy tests, and many very skilled individuals find themselves in the same situation you found your self in. I encourage you to keep coming back and giving your all. Crossover is made for folks who are committed by nature.

Automated questions in cognitive aptitude, English language proficiency, quizzes on skills related to the job description, and if passed, an interview with the hiring manager. Rigorous process but makes sense since they get thousands of applicants and need to automate the selection process

      Interview

The whole process is a time waster, even if you scale through the assessments, they'll reject you for no specific reason after you spent days on the tasks. Its almost like they use to complete the tasks on real things they're working on and then dispose you after you've done them.
