      Interview

Job position is in Bangalore and my current location is in Chennai. They asked me come down for F2F but all rounds where in skype with onsite team which is weired. I felt interview went well but for unknown reason they rejected my candidature. They promised travel reimbursement but they never did that inspite of multiple remainder to HR and consultant.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Sep 7, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Crestron Electronics (Dallas, TX) in Nov 2016

      Interview

*** WORST - INTERVIEWER - EVER!!! *** 3rd party recruiter e-mailed me about position and we spoke and he agreed to submit my resume with an agreed-on (with him) asking salary based on my desired salary range and my declination to disclose my prior salary. Scheduled me for non-technical phone screen with HR. Pretty much the first if not the first question was how much I made at my previous position and seemingly refused to proceed until I would provide it (even though: a) I'd already declined to disclose that to that to the 3rd party recruiter, b) I'd already disclosed my asking salary/range (which rules out any under-pricing concerns), c) in 26 yrs in the workforce having landed 10 jobs and worked with 100's of recruiters and hiring managers, I have only even been asked for my prior salary a minority of times, d) only had a handful of recruiters refuse to proceed without it and e) have NEVER had an actual employer refuse to proceed without it)!?! I politely declined saying that I'd rather not say, but that I can tell him/her that I'm looking for $x-$y depending on (xyz). She acted surprised and flustered (how dare a candidate decline to refuse prior pay?!?) and get this, she actually tried to intimidate me with him/her rank saying "I'm the blah, blah of blah, blah."!?! PFFFT! Seriously?!? Again, I declined politely. Then he/she asked me again including trying to argue with my reason for declining and trying to get my "true objection" and waiting for me to speak more even though I'd already answered her *third* attempt at asking me the same question a la "He who speaks first loses.". Pfffft! I felt like I was in a negotiation with a used car salesman!?! I should know, I was one! Btw, car salesmen have several stereotypes for different types of buyers (that at least what I've seen, *usually* turned out to be true), and he/she was definitely not helping to dispel the stereotype (if he/she were a buyer). Employers should set offers based on their position, budget and perception of candidate's skills, experience, traits and pay desires PERIOD. TERRIBLE way to start off an hiring process! I should've asked her how much THEY paid the last 7employee in this (or same type of) position! Can't wait for the rest of the country and world to adopt the law Massachusetts adopted last year disallowing employers to ask salary history!
