      Senior Backend Engineer Interview

      Jun 6, 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Mountain View, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Commure (Mountain View, CA) in May 2026

      Interview

They don't ask leetcode style interviews. Instead, they prefer to ask work simulation style problems. After the recruiter call, they have a 60 minutes work simulation style coding interview. You can use whatever language you are comfortable with. After that, they have on site, where they may again ask you to build some kind of app (if full-stack engineer role). They'll also have a hiring manager round as well. For me, 60 minutes interview was kind of difficult, because I didn't do enough practice of stream api, functional programming etc. For those who program it like that on a daily basis, it might be easier for them

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

You are given a class called, where different enums are added. For example AGE --> BABY, TEEN, YOUNG_ADULT etc. (with constructor and getValue()) OCCULT --> FAIRY, WITCH, VAMPIRE etc. (with constructor and getValue()) You are given a Person class with firstName, lastName, age (type is AGE enum), salary, occult (type is occult), getter methods of all of its properties For data, you are given public static final List People = List.of( new Person("ABC", "DEF", Age.SENIOR, 200, Occult.WEREWOLF), new Person("XYZ", "PQR", Age.BABY, 0, Occult.FAIRY), ... ); You are given a FunctionalInterface like this @FunctionalInterface public interface PersonFilter { boolean test(Person person); } Now create 3 filters with the help of functional programming in such a way that if anyone wants to use a filter by age, occult, salary, they can. Also, make sure to implement these filters in such a way that multiple filters with and, or conditions can be applied (probably want to use combinator pattern)
