      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Aug 19, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Collage.com (New York, NY) in Jul 2019

      Interview

The overall experience was fairly off-putting. I read through all of these reviews prior to applying and I decided to go forward with it, anyway; genuinely curious. I thought there might be some more underlying part of the interview process that other candidates weren't seeing. Either I found out this wasn't the case or I was just way off the charts from what they were looking for, personality-wise. When the internal recruiter scheduled our first interview, a technical glitch was blamed for us not connecting over Google Meet. I thought nothing of it other than figuring I had connected improperly the first time and thought I set a bad first impression. We rescheduled for two days later (both times I had to take time off from work to accommodate) and was dialed into the call about 5 minutes early. The recruiter still connected a couple minutes late. Sort of a red flag. We talked a lot about the company and they threw some personality questions at me, which I expected. The conversation seemed to go well. We even concluded the call with them saying that I would "definitely" hear back on something the following business day. This never happened. I waited a few more business days before following up to try to accommodate for any expected schedules I needed to plan ahead for any coding assessments, etc. Nothing. Collage.com - seriously, based on the previous reviews: you need to stop doing this to candidates. I've read the responses about how you're a start-up and how you take these reviews seriously, but if I were a owner, I'd be seriously concerned with how you're zipping through these interview processes. Based on the aforementioned, I suspect I was ditched on the first meeting time when I waited on the call for 7 minutes with no follow-up. I emailed you and got a response that Google Meet must have made a mistake. So, I'm honestly not buying it. For everyone's sake at Collage.com, either refine your interview process and/or get your recruitement team some help so they're not in a position to make some tough choices on what I believe to be covering for an overloaded schedule. Also - don't ghost your candidates. Or you'll keep getting an overall bad score on GlassDoor.com In all sincerity - good luck getting a handle on your growth you seem to be struggling with.

Thanks for your review. Im sorry that you had a negative experience. I know that we have received negative feedback on the rigor of our interview process but i am surprised by the particular feedback here as I do make sure to close loops with all candidates. I don't see how you could have been ghosted but if it did happen, I am very sorry for that. I do recall joining the originally scheduled call and waiting as well but that there was nobody on the line. I assumed there was a technical issue that did not connect you on the hangout meet link to the dial in # that i was on (as indicated in the event information), this was my guess but my IT knowledge is limited. Again, i apologize for your negative experience and will look back to see how we can improve moving forward. -Head of Talent Acquisition
