      Store Manager/Assistant Manager Interview

      Aug 31, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Malmesbury, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Coffee #1 (Malmesbury, England) in Aug 2021

      Interview

I was contacted by HR prior to the interview & had a time organized through her with the district manager for the day of my birthday. I received a text message late the night before the first interview having to cancel at very short notice, a small hiccup, nothing major, he did not re- schedule, infact he left it open ended with no further interview date. Disappointing. After the weekend he messaged me out of the blue to schedule a interview for early the next day, again short notice but no big deal. Upon arriving to the store early & talking with the staff, the district manager came in, walked around doing some things, introduced himself, suggested a place to sit & then continued doing other things for 5 minutes before sitting. The interview was simple, he asked & I explained my experience, how I have owned and manage my past business', but generally little explaining about the job.. I think he tried to say the hours were long and that maybe I'd struggle? This is after telling him I've worked 18 hour days 5 days a week and kept my business open 24hrs on a weekend. The pay did not sell it & is definitely under what any assistant or store manager should earn, you make more working as a shift manager for BK or KFC & avg. 20% less than Starbucks.... That is - VERY SAD. In regards to pay, the district manager said something along the lines of "you don't work here for the money, you work for the socialism" Yes, no... No you don't. To top it off after what was not a bad interview for the circumstances, I received no call or message after being told "You'll definitely hear from me by Thursday" Generally a poor option, unreliable, unorganized, not well managed, don't appreciate their staff with substantial pay & unless you're desperate, you can do better. I would have declined even if I got an offer.
