      Director Interview

      Nov 27, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate

      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at CodePath in Oct 2023

      Interview

My review is solely based off of the really weird energy I got from the recruiter when we began the conversation. He explained to me that he was sort of an ad hoc or freelance recruiter for codepath or something to that effect. Basically, he worked there and then quit and then came back in some capacity to support hiring. The interview was pretty straightforward. He asked me why I was interested. I explained that I wanted to work for a place That I truly believed in the work And I continued to elaborate across a number of different interview questions That same theme. Despite my clear qualifications for the job across having worked at a number of stem and computer science-based organizations in the past. He seemed dissatisfied with my seemingly altruistic perspective. Despite my clear business acumen as I currently have a senior level Position at a top Tech company. When he spoke about next steps, he had mentioned something in passing that there were some other folks a little bit further along in the interview process. So they would try to get back to me soon. Which I took as an immediate red flag that I would not be moving forward. I also found it a bit weak because he was very clear that he had no bearing on the day today of the job. But he seemed like he already had decided I Wouldn't be moving forward. I got a rejection pretty quickly afterwards Which was shocking because I was actually referred to the position by someone who currently works in the company who I had previously worked with. So the fact that i didn't move forward was pretty surprising but not shocking in that again during the interview he made it pretty clear He wasn't interested in me. I need to just emphasize though. His energy was off-putting from the beginning and so it threw me off as well. I have no concerns that I'm not qualified to do the job that I applied for just more so that 1 person stood between me and actually proving myself to the people I would be working with. Recruiters really can make or break your perceptions of a company and I don't think I'd consider any other future roles simply based on having to go through him To potentially get them. I feel like an interview is just as much. You interviewing the company as they are interviewing you. He didn't really allow for much opportunity to genuinely Learn or evaluate the position itself. So again I don't think I'd consider future opportunities If he is emblematic of the type of company culture at large.
