      Interactive Developer Interview

      Jul 4, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Montreal, QC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cinco (Montreal, QC) in Jun 2019

      Interview

I was contacted by the Talent Acquisition & Development Manager via email to setup a phone interview. I sent my availability and I received an invitation few minutes later. A few days later the interview time was changed to another date with out checking if that date and time works for me but I accepted any way as I was free that day. The day of the interview I never received a call! I sent an email and I got a response that they were busy and rescheduled for another day. Finally, the talent acquisition manager called me and asked me a few questions and ended the phone call saying that she will save my information for other recruiters she knows. Five minutes later I received a surprising email saying that she would like to setup an in person interview. The day of the interview the manager and the talent acquisition manger came in late to the interview. The manager started the interview by telling me that he will be looking at his phone during the interview because he is busy! The interview ended by saying things like, “we defiantly want you”. The talent acquisition manager asked me to follow up with her a week after if I don’t hear back from her because as she explained they are busy. I sent an email a week later, and the response was that it is a festival season and the whole office is away and my application will not move forward for couple weeks! The whole experience was very confusing and unprofessional. why would the company post a job if the office employees are not able to conduct interviews, I also find it confusing why would I be contacted if the office is busy and can not move forward with applicants!

Thank you for sharing your interview experience, had you not, we would have never known it wasn't positive. We have already reached out to you personally. That being said, the opportunity to speak publicly has arisen, we will take it to ensure the public learn more about us before meeting us. Firstly, we pride ourselves on being very open, we didn’t mean our openness to cause confusion, we understand it’s rare to have companies be as candid as we are. As mentioned in the interview and our recent correspondence, we absolutely know that Cinco is not for everyone as our industry is very unique, and we are a unique organization within the industry. We actually really liked your experience and knowing the hiring manager’s travel schedule, I wanted you to meet before his business trips. Seems that this wasn’t seen as being an opportunity to forge a relationship and meet him. We are not desperately looking to fill positions, rather we are only offering a Cinco seat to the right talent. We need to build relationships in order to assess who’s the right fit, it takes time to find the right one. We did think that you have a lot of qualities that are a fit, hence granting you an interview. As mentioned from the beginning of the process, with the timing of the year, it will be a few weeks until the next step. We were quite clear about this, unlike other company’s that you may not hear from or learn their recruitment/hiring timeline and cycle. Regarding the hiring manager having his phone out during the interview, he commenced the interview by apologizing and mentioning he had to keep his phone out, as we were currently live at some events. Maybe you missed this part? Lastly, regarding the comment that I was offering to connect you with other companies looking for developers. I was just trying to help you, in case the timing didn’t work out for us. As you are new to Montreal and we see value in you, I know a lot of people in this city and didn’t mind introducing you to some. Of course I see now this offer is not valued, and hence is no longer on the table. We understand that Cinco and our interview process is not for everyone. We need highly adaptable, agile, and flexible people at Cinco who thrive under the unknown with strong ability to roll with the changes. It is a shame that our positive and open efforts to assist you caused such confusion. We wish you luck in your future endeavours.
