      Software Developer Interview

      Aug 9, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Casumo in Jul 2017

      Interview

As part of the interview process, they asked me to design software. In the specification they stated that it would only need 4 hours of work. It took me a week to get done. Their expectations of getting it done in 4 hours are completely unrealistic. I submitted the software and got a response of "the software doesn't work". When I had tested the software on two different plataforms. They then refused to communicate any further with me and send me a standard rejection email. Completely unprofessional response. There was no positive feedback or even a chance to demonstrate that the software does in fact work. I would recommend all future applicants for Casumo to think twice before spending your weekends out of full-time work to develop anything for them. Their specifications for the project were so "laid back" - claiming you could use any framework and that it didn't have to be "production ready" code. Meanwhile when you submit the project, they just send garbled negative feedback and a stock standard rejection letter.

The interview felt efficient - a coding task followed by a friendly chat about my code and my background. It left me feeling confident in my abilities and eager to learn more about the position

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Casumo in Apr 2021

      Interview

A short call with an upper management representative. The interview started in a very relaxed and positive tone, we discussed my experience and what value I can bring to the company, and the representative gave a brief explanation about the stack. Everything was going smooth until I asked about the glassdoor negative reviews about the current company direction and upper management. He was not pleased with the fact that I brought that up, and tried to disregard all the accusations using the argument: Do you know that Casumo is a top IGaming company? By that time it was clear that we will not get along pretty well. I don't know or really care about the situation in Casumo, but if someone asks you why your employees are leaving you and to get frustrated with the question, then... what else can I say?

      Interview

I was contacted by an external recruiter for this position. After a brief talk with the recruiter I had an interview with a Casumo HR representative. Mainly about my motivations, what to be expected and also some soft skills. After that I was sent a code assignment which consisted in developing a video rental service using Java and REST interfaces. You are suposed to spend 4 hours doing this assignment, and had one week to deliver it back. I completed the project within the week and sent it back. After that, the company went radio silence for a whole month despite my enquiries for feedback. Finally I received a short note telling me I was rejected for failing the code assesment. The reasons for failing code assesment were, among others, not having full test coverage, not handling every corner case or not using a real database. Mind that you are suposed to spend 4 hours developing a full REST rental service, including model design, yet they seem to expect a work worth 2 or 3 days. Overall, communication was bad as they let me in the shadows for a whole month. As for the assignment, expectations seemed delusional to me, to the point it looks like cheating is the only way to pass.
