I drove overnight for an interview the following morning. When scheduling the interview, somehow while on hold (I think they just set the phone down unmuted), I heard the secretary talking about how an attorney was recently fired. Calvin Smith interviewed me. He came in clearly intoxicated and was 30 minutes late. While I was waiting for the interview, I overheard the secretary say on the phone to a client, "Oh we're sorry, that attorney is no longer with us - we've moved your case to another attorney." I'm pretty sure that was an ABA ethics violation. After the interview, I was told I'd have at least two more interviews. After I waited 15 minutes, I was abruptly asked to leave. The next morning I extended a job offer via phone. I replied to the offer letter via email. During these communications the office manager I was emailing got fired so I went directly through Summit Tucker (a current partner at the firm). I negotiated salary and was told "if I match that, you'll owe me some big favors when you get here." I turned them down. Seemed like a fairly sketchy PI firm with a tremendous amount of turnover. None of my travel expenses (hotel, food, gas) for the interview were compensated and I was laughed at when I asked. Probably another ABA ethics violation.
