      Project Manager Interview

      Apr 12, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Commerce City, CO
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Caliper Foods (Commerce City, CO) in Feb 2023

      Interview

There were four interviews. The first was with the HR contact who initially contacted me through LinkedIn and did a brief screening call going over the details on the position. The second was with the current PM in the position, also a phone call that went over some more specific details and my background. The third and forth was a two hour process at the headquarters in Commerce City. Split into two parts, the first hour being with the director of innovation (head food Scientist) and the CEO - the CEO wasn't on site for the interview but video called in from his condo in the mountains. This made focusing on both parties a little difficult, because I kept having to split my focus between the camera and the party in the room. It was also a little frustrating, because I was asked to come in person instead of remotely, when the most important interviewer wasn't there. They asked me varied questions about my experience in related and non-related fields and how I would Pivot my experience to the position at Caliper. The CEO also had to jump off of the call a bit early, so I didn't get to make a closing statement to him. There was then a short break, before I went into a second meeting with the head of people and the head of operations. They asked me a lot of the same types of questions that the previous parties had, so that made it evident that they didn't really compare notes before having me come in. It also made it hard for me to keep coming up with creative or interesting answers to questions I'd already been asked. They also ran out of things to ask about 15 minutes into the allotted time, and asked me to asked them a few questions. I of course did, and was able to ask them some questions. But hadn't prepared enough to fill an entire 45 minute, seeing as I was expecting to get asked more. So we ended up cutting the meeting short by about 20 minutes. The general energy was reading like they weren't very impressed with me. But I tried to excuse that demeanor, because It was late in the day on a Friday at this point, and it seemed like they were just itching to get things over with. I sent out a thank you letter the next week, and got a follow up the week after that that they had decided to go with someone with more technical experience in their specific field. As of today (4/12/23) the job post is still up, and they still seem to be excepting applications. So I'm not sure if that means that they already hired someone, or if they're just waiting for that perfect candidate to come along.

      Question 1

How would you handle it if you were trying to meet a strict deadline, but two of the responsible parties were having trouble communicating with each other and holding up the lead time?
