      Web Developer Interview

      Jan 5, 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at CT in Dec 2015

      Interview

First, let me state that, although I often feel compelled to write negative reviews about companies these days, very rarely do I actually go through with it. This was the most ridiculous "interviewing" process I have ever wasted my time with. For starters, over the course of the three-week process, I did not speak directly to a single human being. Step one was to create a simple Laravel application within an hour, based on instructions I received via email. OK, simple enough. I did my best on the app, but was unable to complete it, naturally, because an hour is simply not long enough to implement the functionality required. Still, after a week of waiting with no contact, I was finally moved forward in the process. I felt relieved, because I figured "okay, these are sensible people, who don't expect the impossible, and just want to see my process for starting a Laravel project". Step 2 was to visit a webpage to which I received a link via email, answer a list of interview questions, record a 3-minute video explaining who I am, why I'd be a good fit, etc., and create another simple Laravel application. ALL WITHIN ANOTHER ONE HOUR TIME LIMIT. How is a candidate supposed to put any type of thought into answering the questions, record and upload a quality video introduction, AND complete a test application within one hour? I guess we are expected to be one-take superstars in front of the camera, and not meeting that criteria MUST indicate that we are terrible developers. Yep, that definitely follows. Still, I did my best. I was again unable to complete the app, but, at this point, I'm thinking "surely they're just trying to get a feel for me, and there will be more effective methods of assessing my skills and potential". Guess not... Here we are, two weeks later, and I've heard absolutely nothing. Even a simple "thanks, but no thanks" would do. I suggest to the management that they completely revamp their hiring process. There's no telling how many qualified and highly capable employees they have missed out on simply because of their method of hiring. I sure know they dropped the ball on this one.

I did the assessment, by making the webpage that was listed as a PSD file. There were also video questions. Overall I felt like it was a good first step but I have not heard back from them yet regarding the position.

      Interview

Initial application phase was straightforward. I received a blanket email of receipt. Next I completed a timed skill test involving no detailed instructions. This phase was rather frustrating. I received an email of receipt, but no other follow up after 3 weeks. Frustrating to not have a real person to contact!
