      Technical Business Analyst Interview

      Dec 12, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at BriteCore in Nov 2017

      Interview

I applied online over the weekend and received a response Monday that they wanted me to complete a project within a week. Completed the project in a few days and heard back from the team the next day that they wanted to schedule an interview. Scheduled a video interview for the next week with 3 senior-level employees. The interview was pretty standard, "tell me a time when...", "why do you want to work here?", "tell us what you know about our company", etc. We took about an hour and at the end they told me to think about whether or not it was a good fit for me, and if I wanted to proceed then I should send along some references. I took a day or so to think it over and let them know I wanted to move forward, and after my references sent along their comments, I got an offer (same day). This is where the process got hairy. The offer was more than 20% below what I already make (both the offer and my current salary were in the $50k - $70k range on the listing). I counter offered with something slightly above my current salary, acknowledging the benefits were worth quite a lot by themselves. They responded later basically saying they had other candidates to interview but would let me know, to which I responded with my current salary stating that that was my compensation "floor." A week later they basically replied saying they wouldn't come up to my request and would make offers to other candidates. My advice is to start the salary discussion earlier or be more flexible in negotiations. Clearly there was a misunderstanding of my current salary/level of responsibility that led to such a low offer and 3 weeks wasted for both groups. Otherwise keep doing what you're doing and expanding with good people who bring dynamic experiences to your company. The project was straightforward and a good exercise and the interview felt well rounded and complete.
