      Senior Product Manager Interview

      May 9, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Billo in Apr 2024

      Interview

To all product folks, in 10 years of my product leadership career (I come from the top enterprises and startups on the market) I was unpleasantly taken aback by this company, so decided to leave a review - sharing is caring. >Note: this is my personal experience< Red-flag 1 > Interview Questions. Asked personal, psychological and a bit intimidating questions. I got only a few work achievement related questions. Constantly trying to "crack" people gave off weird vibe. That suggest that the leadership is probably lacking an ability to map the dots between work achievements, actually feeling and understanding people without a "playbook". Red-flag 2 > Disproportionate Interview Process. Several rounds of interviews, homework, team day, referral - the set up for high market ranking & valued startup or upper leadership position (Note: none of mentioned is a reality). Suggests that leadership probably have failed multiple times to hire talented people and are afraid. Red flag 3 - No Company Culture. When I asked the question about company culture, I got reversed to answer this question myself. I don't even work there and I cannot know the culture. So they failed to tell about c-u-l-t-u-r-e. Red flag 4 - Lack of Professionalism and Respect. Delays in communication, prolonged periods of silence. Still, I am a professional, so out of respect I did send the homework. Got >3 weeks of silence. Their own invited candidate, after a few rounds of interviews. Absolutely nobody deserves such treatment. Again, I am curious, so I approached them myself and the reply was - "forgot, good luck". This behaviour speaks volumes and totally links with the identified red-flags. Red Flag 5 - Product Vision. I will not go into details, but folks, product vision is completely not for "winning" or an "inspiring" product. It didn't promise an amazing future going further. Generally, I don't believe in people who don't "walk the talk" - if you do too and value yourself, time, and energy then re-consider. They have talked a lot about discipline, speed, authenticity - neither of these values were lived by. In the mean time, I'm happy that I felt there was something wrong from the start and moved on with other stronger startup without waiting them.
