      Associate Consultant Interview

      Dec 31, 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Bain & Company (Dallas, TX) in Oct 2015

      Interview

This was by far the worst, most stressful, and most unpleasant interview process I've ever experienced. I am disgusted by how unprofessional the Dallas office was throughout the process of my second-round interviews. My first round consisted of two 30 minute back-to-back on campus interviews, with employees from Bain's Boston office. For the second round, I was flown into the Dallas office for two more 45 minute back-to-back interviews. The on-campus interview process was overall pleasant. I was impressed by the turnaround time, and my interviewers were friendly and collaborative. My second round in Dallas, however, was HORRIBLE. First of all, I got to the Dallas office 15 minutes early. However, my interviewer, a manager, was 30 minutes late. She was also cold throughout the entire process and seemed entirely uninterested in anything I had to say. My second interview with a partner was better, as he was friendly and encouraging. However, neither of them replied to my thank-you emails. I would have been fine with all of this, but then I didn't hear back from Bain until over a month later. A week after my interview, I emailed the recruiter to check in, only to receive an automatic reply saying she had left the company. I clearly should have been contacted about this change, but all I had gotten was silence. I contacted the alternate recruiting contact listed in the auto-reply several times, but received no reply until later on when I inquired about the reimbursements, since the previous recruiter had sent me a non-functional reimbursement form. So, quite clearly, all my emails pertaining to my candidacy status had been ignored. I also contacted the campus recruiting contact a few times about the situation, and she was very responsive and helpful, contacting the Dallas office for me as well. It was obvious that I wouldn't have gotten a response at all had the Dallas office not been pressured by the campus recruiter. Finally, after a month, a random Bain employee called me to tell me that I had not received the offer, which I was already well prepared to hear. I did not even receive any feedback. Furthermore, it has been two months, and I still have not received my reimbursement for food and travel. It is Bain's protocol for one of the interviewers to call you about your results within a week, and this clearly was not followed in this situation. The whole process was honestly a nightmare, causing me a lot of undue stress, and it really darkened my view of the firm, especially the Dallas office. For such a prestigious management consulting firm, I would expect them to at least have an organized and efficient recruiting process. Furthermore, I am appalled by the lack of responsibility and integrity from my second round interviewers.
