      Finance/Accounting Interview

      Nov 13, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Jose, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Automation Anywhere (San Jose, CA) in Jul 2018

      Interview

Absolutely nothing infuriates me more than an interviewer not knowing what they're doing and what they’re looking for. That was a case of interviewing with AA. At the time of the interview, they had 2 open positions they wanted to fill in ASAP and could not decide for which I would be a good fit. Standard process: 2 phone interviews and one on-site interview. All interviews were not well organized: phone interview was scheduled wrongly: 30 minutes delay from the caller vs. recipient. On-site interview was rescheduled to another day prior to interview, then it was late by 15 minutes, one interviewer was not initially scheduled and simply covering the gap, so I ended up talking to hiring manager for only 15 minutes which was not enough to get to know the content of the position(S). After the week following on-site, I got the call from the recruiter saying that they want to move forward with an offer. When I asked which position and what responsibilities I would handle, she wasn’t sure because they’re still figuring out. I was very polite and patient when to every single question I asked recruiter regarding specifics of position, I kept hearing “I don’t know, because it hasn’t been really decided yet”. And let me tell you, it is incredibly frustrating to not knowing which position you might end up in, the terms and requirements. So I would ask to find out and come back to me with clarifications. They will come back next day or two (at least I’m giving them an “A” for prompt responsiveness); the hiring manager called in explaining that the terms had changed, and they want to offer a contract to hire instead of direct-hire, because they still unsure of the functions and duties of this position? And again, they wouldn’t know about the length of this contract, but they “liked my profile so much and they want me on-board ASAP”. I agreed on condition that it would be converted to direct hire after “evaluation” period, for which they assured me of. Next day salary negotiation started, they proposed the lowest rate which was not commensurable with the amount of work they suggested. We exchanged counter offers and I agreed to a number feeling exhausted with this whole process and their uncertainty. Few days later, I received the offer with completely different position title and terms that we discussed and to which I HAVE APPLIED AND INTERVIEWED FOR. Going back to them to revise the offer stating initial title. Finally receiving and signing all documents 2 days before start date. Same day, after all docs were signed, the hiring manager called notifying that they”re revoking the offer, due 2 reasons: my hesitation (really?) and that they decided that they need completely different type of position (why am I not surprised). Such a waste of my time (~6 weeks, so much for ASAP placement) and effort.
