I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at AlphaSights (New York, NY) in Mar 2016
Interview
I sent in my resume and a cover letter. The next day, I was contacted to do a video assessment. It was fairly simple, and they let you do practice questions. Responses are 30 seconds to 1 minute, and you cannot re-record your responses once they are done. Questions were fairly simple, like why I chose my university, what I think AlphaSights does, etc. I was then asked to do a Skype interview with recruiter who had initially reached out to me. Interview went well, she asked me mostly about my resume. After two weeks I had to reach out to recruiter to follow up. I was invited to do an on-site interview in NY. I had to pay for my own plane ticket, but they will reimburse you up to $200 after the interview. For the on-site interview, I first spoke with one person who had me do an exercise where I was given three scenarios. I had to choose two, and then had 15 min. to find 2 experts for each case. The interviewer returned and we discussed how I did, then did a mock phone call asking the expert to work for AlphaSights. I then spoke with one of the VPs, he was intense but nice. We talked about my resume, my strengths/weaknesses etc. I didn't think I did that well, but a week later I was asked to do a Skype interview with one of the co-founders. We did another mock exercise where I had to ask an expert to consult for AlphaSights. The following week I received an email that my application would not be considered any further.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why did you choose your university?
Walk me through your resume?
What motivates you?
What do you think AlphaSights does?
What industry/sector do you think AlphaSights falls under?
Tell me about a time when you failed?
Do you love to win or hate to lose more?
How would you describe yourself?
I went through 2 rounds of interviews before deciding myself not to move on after the second. The first one was a standard behavioral one, recorded before a screen (might've changed due to the pandemic). The second one consisted of two parts: the first a role play, where I was assigned a case and asked to look for industry experts to answer a question for a made-up client, the second a standard behavioral interview.
