I was scheduled to meet with team members as part of a second round interview after an initial meeting with HR. Unfortunately, I had a family emergency that morning and provided ~6.5 notice and kindly asked to reschedule. I didn't get a response so in order to avoid ghosting the team, I joined the call and politely asked to reschedule. The team members seemed to understand. I then followed up with the HR contact to see when they might be available next and I was ghosted for 2+ weeks until I got a rejection email. It's incredibly disappointing they would treat a candidate they invited to a second round interview this way upon finding out a family member was having a medical emergency. At least have the respect and decency to communicate with your candidates. It speaks volumes about the culture of the company and not in a good way.
