      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Adorama

      Interview

After applying through indeed, I was contacted to schedule an interview. The HR representative thought my resume matched the skills they were looking for and the project manager also wanted to meet me. When I got to the location which was hard to find, I waited nearly 20 minutes in a grimey cafeteria section. The interview took place with the HR lady and two men who were the project managers for the line of products to be photographed. They discussed the role, asked me a few questions then decided they wanted to throw me into their photo studio to shoot sample pictures. They brought me up to a dingy room on the second floor into a messy photo studio and handed me some items with barely any direction to shoot. The current photography/ item description writer was very nice. An older man who was completely understandable that I may not be 100% familiar with their equipment and helped me set up the system the way I preferred. After I shot, they said they'd look at it later and walked me out the building. After two weeks I had to call the HR after emailing a few times. She quickly told me they wanted someone with more experience and hung up. I suspect that the orthodox Jewish men may not have wanted to work with a young woman but they would have not relayed that message to her.

We thank you for your interest in working with Adorama and the time you took to interview with us, but your assumption is incorrect. Adorama is an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate against anyone based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. On the contrary, we believe that employing smart, talented people from diverse backgrounds has been a key driver in our success. As a female Director of Human Resources for Adorama, I can assure you that I have never experienced the discriminatory employment practices you are alluding to. We employ some of the best and brightest people in the industry and we are committed to hiring only the most qualified candidates. Unfortunately, not everyone can be selected to move forward, but we do wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
