      Writer/Coordinator Interview

      Sep 28, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Acumen in Jul 2019

      Interview

First thing involved a data test. I had to do some simple calculations on the data and had to answer a prompt which involved interpreting the data and writing up a memo with graphs and charts. I enjoyed this project, it was fun and gave me a good understanding of what they do at Acumen. Second was a phone screening. HR was really nice and asked me very basic questions about my background and also asked me to run her through my thought process for the data test. After that, I went down for an on-site interview two weeks later. I completed a one hour written test (had some pretty tough probability, permutations, combinations questions on it, also had some basic logic/math questions) and then met with 3 people. Very standard questions were asked. Issue 1: I was told I would hear back in 2 weeks but I heard back a month later. If you scroll back on their interview reviews on Glassdoor, many people complain saying they took a month to get back to them. They claim they try to find a team fit, I think that's a lie. They really will interview you even if they have no openings. Scroll back and you'll see their response to someone that says: "we wouldn't reject an individual like that unless they really need an answer and we didn't want another weekend to go by for that individual". Why interview if you have no openings? Issue 2: No one at this company seemed particularly friendly, all of the conversations I had didn't really flow. It didn't seem like they wanted to get to know me and it didn't really feel like a conversation. I spent a lot of time looking through this company's Glassdoor and all the reviews say the same - people aren't friendly and stick to themselves. It was crazy how amplified this was in real life. It really confirmed every review I read. This was also confirmed by how robotic their HR was. Every time I followed up with them they told me I would hear back "as soon as possible" without any indication of time frame. It felt like I was communicating with a robot. I can tell they employ smart people and do great things but I've never gotten such an uncomfortable, robotic feeling from interacting with people. Seems like this is where you end up if you're smart but lack social skills/couldn't get a job elsewhere!
