      UI Designer Interview

      Nov 18, 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Ace Hardware (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2021

      Interview

I worked with a recruiter, so that phone call was first. I didn’t hear anything from anyone for a month or so, so I thought I wasn’t in the running. Then the recruiter contacted me saying that the hiring manager wanted to speak with me. Round 1: hiring ux manager. She is friendly, clear, thoughtful, sharp, and asks very pointed questions. Round 2: director of digital excellence. He has been at the company for 20 years! If that’s not promising, I don’t know what is. He left a lot of time for me to ask questions and gave great reasons why he loves Ace. Round 3: two calls - one with the CMO and the second with the SVP of Omnichannel marketing. Both were great. These felt a lot like informational interviews and it was more about getting to know what drives me, what the company culture is like, and if I could see myself working with their community. All in all, everyone was passionate, down to earth, and really love the company. They appreciate honest opinions and a more inquisitive nature. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have gone through the experience. It’s true what they say: when it’s the right job, the interviews feel less like interrogations and more like conversations.
