Real Estate Full Charge Bookkeeper Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Access Group (MI) (Troy, MI) in Sep 2020

      Interview

I was first contacted for a phone interview by an employee . Honestly, she seemed utterly bored with the entire process like she would have rather been doing anything else than conducting the interview. I even told my fiance, I probably won't hear back from them because it's clear she doesn't even like her job. To my surprise, I was contacted for a video interview with a few different people. They each took turns asking me questions. The questions were pretty basic and nothing too tricky. I could tell a couple of them were trying to trip me up, such as asking in depth about why I wanted to leave my current position, but I had detailed answers for everything. I was contacted later that same evening stating a different individual I had not previously spoken to wanted to have an in person meeting with me. I was to arrange this with him myself. We settled on the Tuesday after Labor Day at 2:30pm. Prior to the meeting, I was sent several interview questions to be answered prior to the interview and sent back. I found it strange that they already asked all of them during the video interview... When I arrived at their small office, no one was wearing a mask, so clearly they do not care about Covid guidelines. This was an immediate red flag. A woman sat me in a small room and stated the individual who was to interview me was on the phone and she would let him know I was there. After about 10 minutes he came in and told me I was early, that I was supposed to be there at 3:00. Definitely not. His error, not mine. He gave me some assessments to start working on while he wrapped up a phone call. The assessments were accounting questions on paper, and then several computer assessments on a lap top. After I completed the paper questions, I began working on the computer questions. During the test, he sat another laptop in the room where a Zoom meeting was already going on between two women who were to be part of the interview: one being the first bored employee who initiated the first phone call and another woman, who was actually quite pleasant. Regardless, this was incredibly distracting while trying to take an assessment test. I was not impressed by the lack of all professionalism. Finally, the individual decided he was ready for the interview so he entered the small room, again not wearing a mask. After the Zoom meeting, I was left to finish the computer assessments. Since I was given an outdated laptop, in the middle of taking the tests (I had already completed four of them) it restarted and everything was lost. He then gave me his personal laptop to restart all of the tests over again. Once again, NOT at all following any Covid guidelines, giving me his personal laptop to use not sanitizing it at all. When all of that was said and done, I had been there almost two hours. He let me know I would hear back from the bored woman about the next steps. Several days later I received an email stating they were not moving forward with my application. That's completely fine, because if a company cannot even appear professional in conducting interviews, how would they be in the day-to-day operations?! I just want other people to be aware you are probably in for a completely bizarre interview experience by a company that does not at all follow any type of Covid guidelines, which makes it an unsafe environment.
