      Senior Data Engineer Interview

      May 18, 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Vancouver, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Absci (Vancouver, WA) in Apr 2021

      Interview

I was interviewing for a new group within the company called the AI Group. The first interview was with the recruiter to establish some basic eligibility criteria and to get some basic information about the role and company. There were multiple potential roles that I was able to apply to, and the recruiter helped me pick the best fit. Interestingly, the recruiter also highlighted that AbSci is dog-friendly and had to make sure that I would be okay with potentially sharing an office with dogs. The second interview was with the hiring managers. We discussed the role in more detail and they asked several technical questions to determine my relevant experience for the role. The third set of interviews was the remote equivalent of an on-site visit with the company. I met with about 8 people in the company, some from the group I was applying to join and some from other parts of the company that I would be interacting with in my role. These interviews ranged from personality/culture fit interviews to technical interviews talking about my background and high-level descriptions of the technology that the AI Group would be developing. I was also asked to give a 30-40 minute prepared presentation highlighting a technical project that I had worked on related to the role, followed by Q&A from everyone that I was interviewing with. Finally, I had one more 1-on-1 meeting with the hiring managers to answer any outstanding questions I had about the role and my fit with the group. There were no coding interviews nor live demonstrations of my coding, data science, or data engineering skills, which I appreciated given my experience in the field. The recruiter was outstanding in managing the whole recruitment process, and kept in touch via phone calls and texts the whole time.
